ABOUT ENTRANCE EXAMINATIONS

Qualifying in Medical UG Level Competitive Entrance Tests have become a challenge in recent times for the students. Clearing the Board examinations and even scoring high marks in those examinations does not guarantee a seat in medical colleges any more. One must also clear the entrance examinations with scoring high mark in these examinations. The examination patterns are also quite different putting the students to challenging task. In academic exams, the questions are straight forward based on the facts and figures, while in competitive entrance tests, the questions are quite twisted.

Medical Entrance Exams: A Brief Outline

Most of the entrance tests for Medical Colleges in India are held in the months of May/June for the academic year commencing from July/August of the following year. Usually, the syllabus of the entrance test is based on the NCERT courses outline of class XI and XII. In these Entrance Tests; Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology cover major sections. However, some specific entrance tests also include English Proficiency & Comprehension, Logical & Quantitative Reasoning, General Knowledge/Aptitude & Logical Thinking/Mental Ability/Current Affairs, Language Test, Bible Test and Gandhian Ideologies, etc. The weightage of the aforementioned subjects vary from exam to exam. Single test is conducted for most of the entrance tests; while some specific tests are conducted in two-stages/ two-days. As per the directive of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, from 2019 onwards the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG) will be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). It was being conducted by the CBSE till 2018. The responsibility of the NTA will limited to the conduct of the entrance examination, declaration of result and providing All India Rank to the Directorate General Health Services (DGHS), New Delhi, Government of India for the conduct of counseling for 15% All India Quota Seats and for supplying the result to state/other Counseling Authorities. Candidates seeking admission in AFMC for MBBS Course will register online through NEET and they will also have to register at www.afmc.nic.in. The links of the AFMC websites for registration & online application will be activated after allotment of Roll Numbers to the candidates appearing in NEET.

Test Pattern of National Level Medical Entrance Exams:

NEET UG:

According to MCI, students seeking for medical admission in any medical colege or university in India or abroad students must qualify National Entrance Eligibility Test(NEET) UG examination.In 2019 NEET exam will conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA) in 5th May. The Entrance Test consists of total 180 objective type multiple choice questions from Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany and Zoology).

ELIGIBILITY FOR NEET 2019

AGE: Should have attained or will attain the age of 17 (seventeen) years as on the 31st of December of the year of admission.

The upper age limit for NEET (UG) is 25 years as on the date of examination with relaxation of 5 years for the candidates belongging to SC/ST/OBC category and persons entitled for reservation under Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016

QUALIFICATION FOR NEET 2019

Provided that to be eligible for NEET (UG) – 2019, candidate must have passed any of the qualifying examinations as enumerated above or appearing in the qualifying examination in 2019. Provided also that to be eligible for NEET (UG) – 2019, the candidate must have passed in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-technology and English individually and must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Bio-technology at the qualifying examination as mentioned in clause (2) of Regulation 4 on Graduate Medical Education Regulations, 1997 as amended in 2018 and in addition must have come in the merit list of NEET (UG) – 2019 for admission to MBBS/BDS Courses.

In respect of the candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes or Other Backward Classes, the marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/ Bio-technology taken together in qualifying examination shall be 40% marks instead of 50% marks for Unreserved 14 Candidates and 40% for SC/ST/OBC candidates. In respect of PwD candidates specified under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, the minimum marks in qualifying examination in Physics, Chemistry and Biology (or Botany & Zoology)/Bio-technology taken together in qualifying examination shall be 45% instead of 50% for Unreserved category candidates.
